Withal, he after gains enough confidence to get on without his hat after Kaname Tōsen's betrayal against Soul Society. He is the tallest captain of the Gotei 13. His fur is lite-dark-brown in color, which is the same color as his gloves. He likewise wears shoulder weights over his haori and large, plated boots instead of sandals. Later, during the second Wandenreich Invasion, he has received new armor. The new armor is more rounded at the shoulders than his old, and he has received a new helmet, and armor plating for his torso.[5] When he utilizes his Man Transformation Technique, Komamura's appearance becomes closer to that of a Human being, which retains his large size. He has long hair in this form, but he still retains his wolf ears and some fur on his forearms.[6] [7]

Sajin is a very forgiving person even if his friend is corrupt, or how evil they are, no matter how many innocent people they've killed, and even if they're about to kill him.[9] This adverse result is evident when he describes himself to Choe Neng Poww as "a meager worm" (he may accept been speaking in sarcasm, even so, as Poww previously referred to him and his opponents as "worms").[10]

Komamura is also a very serious human, deeply scarred by the times when he was spurned past Soul Lodge for his appearance. He is not tough or brutal to his Division, preferring to lead them with impartiality. His favorite nutrient is meat, but he dislikes carrots, supposedly because his begetter once told him that carrots were "not for their kind." Komamura tends to growl when angered. Despite existence a gentle person, he is common cold, ruthless and computing when fighting. Once he is washed fighting, yet, he reverts to his gentle, giant self.

Komamura is pleased with Shūhei Hisagi's gift of a dog castor from the Man World, as he finds brushes in the Seireitei ineffective when grooming his fur.[11] In addition, Iba imagines that Komamura will possibly use a domestic dog Gigai if he were to become underground in the Man World.[12] He also likes dogs, particularly ones of mixed breeds, and fifty-fifty keeps i, whose proper name is 'Goro', in his Division's quarters. During his free time, he takes Goro for strolls.[3] He likes the Man World's puppy shows.[thirteen]

Tōsen interrupts Komamura, informing him that he would release his beginning.[24] [25]

Komamura saves Tōsen from beingness slaughtered by Kenpachi.

Komamura finally releases his Bankai to face up Kenpachi and "satisfy" the latter'due south lust for fighting.[27] [28] Even so, sensing Yamamoto's Shikai, he later leaves Kenpachi to blitz to his benefactor'southward assistance.[29]

Before reaching Yamamoto, Komamura hears the message of Aizen and Tōsen's betrayal and rushes over to Sōkyoku Colina to intercept the real traitors.[30] Upon arriving at the hill, Komamura immediately attacks Aizen with his Shikai, but he quickly moves and gets up shut to Komamura and stops his blade with one hand. Komamura regains consciousness at the fourth dimension of the iii leaving, shouting for Tōsen to get dorsum down. "Why did you go a Shinigami?" he asks. "Was information technology non for your friend who died? Was information technology not for justice?" During the battles with Baraggan Louisenbairn's Fracción, he steps in to salve Ikkaku Madarame afterwards his defeat at the hands of Baraggan'south largest Fracción, Choe Neng Poww. Komamura catches Poww off guard and punches him into the side of a edifice.[43] Poww, however, is immediately dorsum on his feet, unscathed, and is also unfazed by the captain beingness an animal. Poww then proceeds to punch him for several miles and releases his Zanpakutō.[44] Komamura returns and stops an attack from the released Arrancar, who was attempting to attack his lieutenant and Ikkaku, and proceeds to throw the him over his head and in to the ground.[45] Poww, unharmed, says the hit made him "yawn", which is really him building up a Cero. Poww fires the Cero, which Komamura's Bankai blocks with its sword. Poww proceeds to throw iv punches, each of which is blocked. Komamura so proceeds to requite Poww a dial of his own. Subsequently recovering, Poww proceeds to grapple with the giant, while simultaneously firing another Cero. This has seemingly no result on information technology. The behemothic after forces the Cero downwardly Poww's own throat with his hand. The counterattack throws the Arrancar dorsum and he falls to the ground. Komamura and so kills Poww with a unmarried blow from the giant'due south sword.[47]

After Tetsuzaemon scolds Ikkaku for not using his Bankai,[48] Komamura wiggles his ear, and Iba and Ikkaku immediately notices he was standing right next to them (again referencing the fact that he's not bad at hiding his spiritual pressure). Komamura says non to worry, and that it seems he has something in his ears. This mayhap hints that he overheard Iba and Ikkaku's conversation about how Ikkaku tin can utilise Bankai, just he chooses not to reveal anything.[49]

Some time after the battles confronting Baraggan's Fracción, Komamura is with watching over the casualties while Izuru Kira attends to the injured lieutenants. He looks upward at the sky, viewing the fights between the other captains and the Espada.[l]

Seeing the huge Hollow creature come through the Garganta, Komamura notices its i eye and recalls seeing the same eye in the Garganta that opened when Aizen escaped Soul Lodge months before.[51] He is suddenly brought out of idea by Kira, who tells them that he and the fallen lieutenants will exist fine and that he should go as even if he stays and protects them, what would exist the signal if all the others died.[52]

Komamura protects Shinji from Tōsen.

As Tōsen sets himself to attack Shinji Hirako, he intersects the attack, Shinji asks if he should be helping them and Komamura simply says that he is going to help and will non have no for an answer.[53] Komamura then tells Tōsen that he never idea he would exist protecting someone from him. As Tōsen tells him that their battle was inevitable, Shūhei Hisagi appears and asks that he be allowed to fight every bit well.[54] When Tōsen remarks that he will release his full ability now that Aizen has joined the boxing, Komamura believes Tōsen ways his Bankai, and says he will release his as well. Tōsen and so comments to Komamura that it's ironic that the Gotei 13 ally with Ichigo, a Shinigami-Hollow hybrid just like him. He then asks Komamura to explain why his power has become despicable just because he has chosen to wield information technology. Komamura explains that Ichigo Kurosaki did not choose to undergo Hollowfication. He, on the other hand as an elite Shinigami, had no need for such a matter, and chose it of his own complimentary will. He then states that Tōsen has been corrupted past that power. Tōsen questions this explanation, and asks how flirting with his inner Hollow would show anything of the sort. He states that Komamura merely speaks in that tone considering of his antiquated sense of dualism regarding Shinigami and Hollows. Komamura yells at him stating that is non what he meant, in fact referring to the mode Tōsen threw abroad his friends and subordinates simply to gain forbidden power. Komamura makes note that is where his corruption has led him astray.[56]

Komamura calls out his Bankai to combat Tōsen's Hollowfication.

Tōsen goes to speak, but is cut off when a chain wraps around his neck, pulling him back and slamming him into the roof of a nearby edifice. He enters into a pocket-size conversation with Hisagi before he impales him on his blade and throws him off the side of the building. Tōsen then states that his fear for the by 100 years is that he would assimilate with the residual of the Shinigami and dice a pointless expiry. He is then interrupted as Komamura releases his Bankai.[57]

Tōsen scoffs at Komamura's Bankai as he releases it, saying that afterward the 7th Division captain had seen his ability, fighting him with a mere Bankai is foolish.[58] Tōsen attacks the giant'due south right arm, injuring Komamura in the process. Komamura counterattacks and the giant's left arm hits Tōsen several blocks away. This set on breaks Tōsen'due south left arm, leaving it mangled. Tōsen makes the ascertainment that Komamura'southward Bankai is linked to his body and that injuring the giant corresponds to injuring Komamura. Tōsen makes the comment that Komamura probably never considered the possibility of declining to defeat the enemy in a unmarried strike or receiving a counterattack.[59]

Komamura fights Tōsen with his Bankai.

Tōsen uses high-speed regeneration to fully restore his arm. Komamura tells Tōsen that he has truly abandoned his Shinigami nature. His respond is that those words are zero more than than excuses for his own defeat. Tōsen repeats Komamura'due south words about him debasing himself, deceiving his friends in order to gain power. Only then he asks Komamura "Joining an system for the sake of revenge, yet in the course of one's peaceful life, they're forgetting that objective and serving that organization happily, would yous not telephone call that debasement?" As he speaks, his mask begins to cleft and form a mouth. Tōsen and then tells Komamura that the latter is more debasing than the former, shouting revenge. He asks Komamura if he thought information technology was strange "that a man whose greatest friend was killed would join the aforementioned organisation every bit the killer?" Komamura answers that he thought his goal was justice, that he believed in his friend's ideals and wanted to fulfill them himself. Tōsen says that Komamura is right. Tōsen states that justice is his goal, but asks what justice is, and that goodness and justice are not the same. He says that living out his peaceful life and non avenging his friend would be evil.[sixty]

Komamura says that he had misjudged Tōsen completely and that they will never see heart-to-eye. Tōsen inquire if Komamura will strike him down, saying that it's laughable. Komamura replies if their cadre behavior are incompatible, then attempting to utilise words is meaningless, proverb that for the sake of Soul Society, he must strike Tōsen downward. He says to Tōsen that he has already forgiven him in his centre. Tōsen is slightly put off by this, telling him not to speak equally though he were a god, saying that he had already forgiven him. Tōsen tells him that he didn't ask for forgiveness and that if Komamura wanted to strike him down, he should do and so if he is able to say that after witnessing his Resurrección. Tōsen so releases his Resurrección: Suzumushi Hyakushiki, Grillar Grillo.[61]

Komamura evades his attack and recalls that on that day he detected a minor lie in Tōsen'south words. Noting that Tōsen spoke ofttimes of the world that she loved, just didn't once say a give-and-take about loving the globe himself. Komamura admits that he understood this as anyone had the right to feel that way when a loved ane was taken from him. He resolved to give Tōsen back what he lost somehow. Komamura uses his Bankai, but Tōsen is able to effortlessly stop the behemoth bract in his clawed hand dissentious Komamura'south Zanpakutō. Every bit Komamura seems distracted by the chink in his bract Tōsen draws circles in the air with his claws and uses his "Los Nueve Aspectos" technique, impacting Komamura's Bankai straight in the chest with tremendous crushing power, sending it crashing to the footing. Komamura falls, sustaining a similar injury to himself. Tōsen comes over to Komamura and asks him if they should finish the fight. He then says that justice is non something that tin can be expressed in mere words as he charges his Cero. Komamura then apologizes to Iba, Hisagi and Tōsen, as he could not strike his sometime friend down. As Tōsen prepares to finish him off, they are both surprised every bit a blade goes through the top of Tōsen's head. He then watches as Hisagi stands upon Tōsen's dorsum with his Zanpakutō impaled in his spine, which he then releases, impaling him farther with one of the blades coming out of Tōsen's oral cavity.[63] When Tōsen, who has returned to his normal course, regains consciousness, Komamura reminds Tōsen nigh him saying that he knew the 2 would cantankerous blades eventually, and that he too knew this would happen, every bit did Hisagi. He tells Tōsen that he does not expect him to stop beingness angry, but that he should not focus only on vengeance until he loses himself. Sajin tells Kaname that similar when he lost his friend, his heart would be empty if he lost Tōsen. Kaname thanks him for his words and tells Hisagi that he wants to see his confront, and that he tin can come across in his Hollowfication grade. Tōsen explodes, splattering claret across the rubble. Komamura and then yells at Aizen.[64]

Aizen cuts down Komamura.

But equally Ichigo is about to suspension down by Aizen's words, Komamura steps in and warns him not to be taken in and lose himself, for he will lose his life as well. Hakuda Main: While non relying on the most advanced forms of unarmed combat, Komamura has slap-up skill at brawling hand-to-hand fighting, using his phenomenal strength to supplement his blows. This form of combat is what he excels in when non engaging in swordsmanship. He is skilled enough to go toe-to-toe with the Reigai of one of the foremost paw-to-hand combatants in Soul Society, Helm Suì-Fēng.[77]

Primary Swordsman: Komamura is highly skilful in swordsmanship, and is more than than capable of belongings his own against the likes of Kenpachi, who is arguably one of the nearly well-versed in swordsmanship equally well as one of the greatest concrete combatants in Soul Order.[106]

Shunpo Good: Komamura is highly proficient in Shunpo, with at to the lowest degree the average speed of a helm-level Shinigami. Komamura was able to grab Lieutenant Momo Hinamori just earlier Sternritter "Eastward" Bambietta Basterbine'due south explosions came in contact with her.[107]

Immense Spiritual Ability: As a captain, Komamura possesses an incredible corporeality of spiritual energy. When Komamura releases his spiritual energy, it has the same magnitude of his enormous forcefulness, and tends to destroy the area effectually him.[108] He is quite skilled in hiding his spiritual presence because, due to his appearance, he does it quite frequently out of what he feels is a necessity to hide from others.[109] He is able to apply his spiritual pressure equally a weapon, as he is capable of blasting back most normal enemies with a simple palm thrust without physically touching them. He incapacitated several unseated Shinigami soldiers who were controlled past the Bount Mabashi by doing this.[37] His Reiatsu is red.[110]

Immense Strength: Due to his large stature, Komamura has unbelievable physical strength. He was able to throw the Resurrección form of the behemothic Arrancar Choe Neng Poww, who was close to if not the same size as the giant his Bankai produces, and did so with apparent ease.[111] [112]

Fifty-fifty after beingness gravely injured by Kurohitsugi, Komamura was still able to stand and refuse treatement.

Immense Endurance: Komamura is capable of taking considerable amounts of damage and still continuing to fight, despite the severity of his injuries. He refused medical treatment after existence hit by Aizen's level 90 Kidō spell.[113] He was also utterly unfazed from being punched across a peachy distance through parts of a urban center.[114] [115] He is durable plenty to survive having his breast caved in and nonetheless continue to fight with no discernible handicap.[116] [117] Fifty-fifty after having his left hand severed by Aizen, he immediately counter-attacked, seeming to completely ignore the wound.[118]

Enhanced Senses: Because of his animal-likeness, he is seemingly in possession of superior senses.

Enhanced Reflexes: Komamura has very peachy reflexes in contrast to his big frame. He is capable of matching even the extremely fast attacks of Helm Suì-Fēng.[119]

Komamura after performing the Humanization Technique.

Humanization Technique (人化の術, Jinka no Jutsu; Viz "Humanification"): A special technique that is unique to the werewolf clan that Komamura is from, which allows one to shed their beast form and return to their Human class. This is achieved by ritually removing one's centre. In this form, his body is nothing more than a crush. The secret technique of Human transformation allows his clan to obtain an immortal body by offering their physical heart. Therefore, as long every bit he is Homo, he can never die. While in this state, attacks accept no result on either Komamura or his Bankai and all wounds quickly regenerate.[120]

Animal Communication: It is likewise known that he is able to talk to animals.[1]

Zanpakutō

Tenken redirects here. For the manifested spirit that appears in the anime-only Zanpakutō Unknown Tales arc see Tenken (Zanpakutō spirit).

Tenken (天譴, Heavenly Penalization; Viz "Heavenly Retribution"): Information technology takes the form of a normal katana. The cross-guard is a rectangle decorated with a design of vertical lines, with the long sides pinched in towards the middle. The overall advent is similar to a squared-off hourglass.

  • Shikai: Its Shikai command is "Roar" (轟け, Todoroke).[121] Tenken maintains its class every bit a regular katana.

Komamura's Shikai.

Shikai Special Power : In its Shikai, Tenken creates various phantom body parts of a fearsome armored giant to copy whatsoever trunk part Komamura moves; for instance, should Komamura swing his sword, a gigantic disembodied arm wielding a sword appears and mimics the motion. The body's gigantic parts generated past this Shikai possess strength and attacking power proportionate to their size (though not every bit powerful as Komamura's Bankai, due to not having a total body), making Komamura'due south Zanpakutō quite powerful.[122]
  • Bankai: Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō (黒縄天譴明王, Vidyaraja of Kalasutra'south Heavenly Penalisation; Viz "Divine Retribution, Black Ropes of Ruination"): Komamura brings along the entire giant, a Bankai of living armor.[123] Standing at virtually a hundred meters alpine, the giant resembles an armored samurai. It wields a sword with a guard similar to Komamura's, merely with a different bract and a string hanging from the hilt. Komamura also retains its form as a regular katana. While in use, Komamura and his katana maintain a glow of spiritual energy.[124] [125]

Komamura'south Bankai.

Bankai Special Power : The behemothic copies Komamura's movements to devastating result, allowing information technology to deal out colossal amounts of impairment. Its force is proportionally far greater than that of Komamura, due to its size.[126] It is strong enough to accept a released Arrancar's point-blank Cero without existence damaged, and could easily smother him with its bare easily.[127] It is also durable plenty to withstand a blast from Captain Suì-Fēng'south "Jakuhō Raikōben" while sustaining merely a few injuries.[128] Despite its enormous size, the giant is also deceptively fast, as it instantly copies all of Komamura's movements.

Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō: Dangai Jōe.

  • Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō: Dangai Jōe (黒縄天譴明王: 断鎧縄衣, Vidyaraja of Kalasutra'due south Heavenly Penalization: Severed Mail and Thread-Clad; Viz "Divine Retribution, Black Ropes of Ruination: Armor Repulsion Rope Raiment"): In its Dangai Jōe form, Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō's armor is removed, exposing a body equanimous of nothing simply pure Reiatsu.[129] Since its armor is its life, by shedding the armor, Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō is literally casting its life bated.[130] When Komamura uses this technique, his Bankai brings forth the entire behemothic equally usual. The deviation is that in this form, the giant sheds its armor and only has a large string wrapped effectually its body multiple times. Its visage is exposed, appearing to exist that of a demonic creature.[131] This grade is just possible via the use of Komamura'south Humanization Technique. Due to the nature of the technique used to attain this grade and its symbiotic connection with its wielder, this Bankai is almost invulnerable to concrete harm.[132]

Weakness

Zanpakutō

Symbiotic Link (Bankai): Komamura's Bankai possesses a critical weakness: a powerful bond exists between Komamura and Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō, causing any damage inflicted on the Bankai to be reflected onto its master. This essentially makes Komamura a larger target to a sufficiently powerful opponent. However, this same bond allows Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō to be restored if Komamura's wounds are healed, making it unique among Bankai.[133] According to Tōsen, information technology has such immense destructive power that Komamura has never considered that he might non defeat an enemy with a single strike, permit alone receive a counterattack.[134]
